About the customer. Problem. Pain
We were faced with a challenging but exciting task: to make the FC Dynamo website modern, convenient and multifunctional. Our team decided to raise the bar and create the best football website globally.
Why the best? Good question.
Let us tell you now! :)

Without understanding the challenges of the past, it isn't easy to plan for the future. Therefore, we started by researching the experience of Dynamo departments with their old websites (remember, there were THREE) to understand clearly what works and what doesn’t.

Work process, interviews, prototype development

After analyzing all the problems of old websites, we started working on our ambitious goal. It turns out that all Dynamo employees wanted some changes.
Still, even when the whole organization is approaching a new stage of development and understands that it is time to make a quantum leap, they require the help of those who constantly make such leaps.
And we, Linecore web studio, came in as experts. Our team also went to the matches and loved Dynamo, so we were very motivated with this project and thoroughly approached the preparation.
Process
We put the fans in the front seat. They are a loyal audience, and the convenience and informativeness of the site are essential to them.
We started with questions to ourselves and the fans:

— What is it like to be a fan? Why do people go to football? Do they associate themselves with players?

— How can we help people be closer to their favorite “Dynamo”?

We interviewed all Dynamo departments: IT, TV, store, marketing, website, and fan club.
We conducted in-depth interviews with dozens of fans and gathered valuable information.
Furthermore, we asked the respondents: “Why do they support the club, and how did the history of rooting for a team start?
It all came from a grandfather, father, or friend in most cases. They took a relative to football game for the first time, which was the beginning of a fan’s journey.

We realized it's a story about being involved in something big and wanting to share it. So we looked at the club's website from the standpoint of the person going through the experience of attending the match. We saw how we could help them get closer to their favorite team.
Our conclusions
We realized that 75% of website traffic comes from the mobile version. Using smartphones, people organize to go to football, buy tickets, and share their impressions.

Many people follow the text broadcast of matches, so we have created match centers dedicated exclusively to a specific game of the team on the Dynamo website.

The club's attributes (T-shirts, scarves, sweaters, and other souvenirs) is essential for the fans, so we needed to create a single platform where they can do everything:

  1. Buy a ticket.
  2. Watch a match.
  3. Choose their favorite player's T-shirt.
  4. Find out where to get a discount on the “Friends of Dynamo” program.
  5. See photos and read the news after the game.

Thanks to the power of design, we improved the user experience

on a single platform and gave them everything expected.

We started working on the design by brainstorming and put all the ideas and visions on paper and in pixels.
We did marketing analysis: studied user pains, trends, and expectations
We mapped out the user's future path on the site and drew the first sketches.
We created high fidelity prototypes in full color.
During the work, we analyzed the sites of all the best football clubs globally, found inspiration, and figured out where to go
Analyzing the websites, we saw confirmations of our hypotheses on the world's platforms of the best football clubs. This gave us a lot of confidence, and we continued to work on the aesthetics of the Dynamo website.

Aesthetics in football is essential, and it should be trendy and unique. It was based on the key aspects of the football club's identity.

The navigation of the new Dynamo website is stylistically reminiscent of the club’s logo, which makes it unique and helps users remember it better.

We developed a design system and created a preview of fonts, buttons, elements, and everything you see on the site.

Ultimately, the final idea and prototypes with stakeholders were approved.

Numbers. We asked:

12

Managers

124

Fans

10

Sports journalists

27

Dynamo employees

We researched the websites of football clubs: Juventus, Everton, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Leicester, Hoffenheim, Liverpool, Manchester City
We dedicated 300+ hours to the study.
Creating layouts
Football matches occur both during the day and in the evening. The site user needs to check the information or watch the game quickly.
For the comfort and health of your eyes, we have created two versions of the site: night and day mode. Modes switch automatically: night starts at 9 pm and day mode at 6 am.

However, you can switch to a convenient mode with one click whenever you want and see a clear picture regardless of the time of day.

Here we can authoritatively state that no football club

has made such a decision before us! :)

We will show you what layout options we created and how many ideas we had in this video.
Data migration from websites

Another important task we faced was migrating data from old Dynamo websites.

Another important task we faced was migrating data from old Dynamo websites.

We remind you that there were:
Three websites that weren’t connected. They were programmed by different developers and worked with separate designers, managers, and teams. Absolutely three different websites, of which we had to make one!!
An old admin panel, the work on which required extraordinary mental strength and magic skills.
The online store stopped working at the most critical moments, and all the data had to be entered manually. It was challenging, especially during a match or during active sales.
We took a few steps to achieve the goal and help the club:
We've migrated all data from the three websites.
All games contain many photos that take up a lot of space. Without losing quality and timeline, we had to generate a process to move the gallery to a new site.
We exported player information. Likewise, we have collected the history of all the players who played for Dynamo during the last 10-15 years; all achievements, names, a number of matches, goals, stadiums where they took place, rival teams, etc.
Furthermore, we integrated the site with a CRM system, which allowed us to establish the work of the sales department and optimize the company's internal processes.
We transferred all videos from Dynamo TV.
We developed a news module: that saved and moved the work of previous editions and collected news about the club for all the years of its existence.
Furthermore, we have left the technical possibility for the site's future development without restrictions.
As a result
we have a single structure on one site: an online fan shop, Dynamo TV, a fan's personal account, a news portal, and a gallery. And all this is united by a single fan's profile page.
For example:
Fans can visit a website and see the news of the upcoming match.
They can register and go to a personal account, buy a ticket, and read information about players.
Also, it is easy to buy a T-shirt with the name of their favorite players, see previous games' statistics, and even watch videos of some matches.
Integration with the ERP
The ERP is the primary tool of the club’s business, of accounting, analytics, and Dynamo fan shop. We made sure that the data flow was as convenient and fast as possible.

We joined forces with the ERP developer in order to provide the seamless integration:
We placed the admin interface of the online store on a specialized accounting platform.
Furthermore, we have developed an API so that employees of the online store can import all changes in the catalog to the website in real-time (prices, range, discounts, etc.).
The Dynamo fan shop now has only one system to work with. Employees no longer need to switch between many open windows to set the price and process the orders.
An admin tool
As we have already written, the old website was made in 2012; the admin panel was outdated and inconvenient.
We have created a handy editor where each team member can format the page according to the club's needs.

It was essential for us to make an intuitive interface. A person who does not know HTML and CSS can easily upload news or articles to the site using different formats: text, video, photo, quote, etc and use the WYSIWYG editor.
We have automated multiple publishing steps, making them more modern, beautiful, and convenient.
Testing
And so we came to testing.
We held it in 2 stages:
1
First, we did user testing for a limited number of users, the site's target audience (fans, sports journalists, club employees). It was important for us to understand whether the final website corresponds to their idea of Dynamo. We received very positive feedback, which confirmed that we did our job well.
2
Technical testing, where we checked whether the website is functioning correctly and whether it meets all security requirements. We tested its performance on all popular web browsers and mobile phones and also passed the test for high user load.
